About
Allow me to tell you about... Me. My name is David Beaudoin and I am a software developer. I work professionally as a website and iOS developer and on my own time I like to dabble in video game development.
I grew up in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire, nestled around the beautiful lake Winnipesaukee. My favorite place to go as a kid was the local arcade and bowling alley Funspot, which funnily enough, gained added fame when it was featured in the documentary, "The King of Kong." I graduated from Laconia High School in 1998, spent a few years living in the San Fernando Valley just outside of Los Angeles, and now I reside in the "Tri-City" area of New Hampshire. I do miss being able to wear t-shirts year around, but there's nothing like having a full four seasons (not just hot and dry or cool and dry) and white Christmases.
Much of my website development knowledge was self-taught, acquired by years of working on a variety of video game e-zines. I started off as a writer/reviewer for Gaming-Age, but eventually I decided to learn HTML to build my own 'zine. After doing that for a couple of years, I landed my first paid gig at an online education company in Los Angeles as a Junior Web Developer. I moved on to other companies and agencies - including Manchester based wedü and Portsmouth based Mad*Pow - over the years before landing in my current role.
Along the way, I earned a Bachelors degree online in game software development from Westwood College (yes, the "tighten up the graphics on level 3" school), and later branched out to iOS App development via more self-guided education. I shipped my first iPhone App called iMonarchs in 2011 and have released several redesigns and updates in the years since. Last year, I deployed a 3.0 revision where the App was competely rebuilt from the ground-up with offline support.
My areas of expertise are building websites on a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack, and developing iOS (iPhone or iPad) Apps using Objective-C or Swift. My development work on websites includes a ton of experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and both my website and App development have made it so I know my way around programs like Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, GIMP and Sketch.
I consider myself to be very detail-oriented with a good eye for user interface (UI) design and a mind for intuitive user experience (UX). I'm sometimes particular to a fault - I've heard it called "planning paralysis" - but I like to think I am a great team player. As the old quote goes, "Teamwork makes the dream work."
When I'm not banging on a keyboard pumping out lines and lines of gibberish, I enjoy spending time with my wife Ashley, our three cats, our East African Sideneck Turtle, and our African Spur-Thigh Tortoise. My hobbies include reading and learning about new tech, watching movies, listening to music, playing ice hockey (poorly), playing guitar (even more poorly), and playing video games.
